To publish content with the Nomad Travel Solution Package either we will set up an automated process to import it from your website content management system (CMS) or the content will need to be entered manually through Nomad's CMS.

If you don't already have your content in some sort of database and don't have the time to enter it manually through our CMS, we can do this for you as a service.

Even if we import content automatically from your CMS, you will still need to use the Nomad CMS to configure the content structure for your mobile website and app (See the "Plan" page). It's a very simple process and typically only takes 1-3 hours to organize everything to your satisfaction.

Nomad’s CMS is hosted on our servers and can be accessed through any web browser.

How are updates handled?

Any content updates can be pushed out to your mobile website and apps within a matter of minutes.

Below is a step-by-step walkthrough of the publication process.

Step 1 - Import or Enter Content

You can bring content into the Nomad platform in one of two ways:

Importing content automatically from existing CMS or database

We can set up an automated import process to synchronize content from your main website content management system (CMS) to your mobile website and apps. By doing this, you can utilize your existing CMS to maintain portions of your mobile content such as lodging, restaurant and events listings. Content needs to be available in a structured database format, with separate fields for things like street address or business category.

For certain kinds of information it may still be easier for you to enter it directly in the Nomad CMS.

Entering content using Nomad web-based CMS

Create and edit content items that can contain:

  • Formatted text (Nomad uses standard HTML tags)
  • Pictures
  • Video
  • Audio
  • URL links to web sites
  • Phone links that users can tap to dial the number (if they are using a smartphone)
  • Links to other content items within the guide
  • GPS coordinates to display the location on the map
  • Categories

Step 2 - Organize Your Content

Once the majority of your content is entered, you will need to organize it into Guides and Sections. Think of this as the main table of contents for your app. Unlike traditional printed materials, however, you can include the same content item in multiple parts of your table of contents.

You’ll use the Nomad CMS to create and organize these Guides and Sections, and assign Content Items to them.

See the Plan page for a full discussion of how you can organize content in Nomad.

Step 3 - Review & Proof Content

The Nomad publishing platform includes numerous content reviewing tools, within the CMS itself and on actual devices. Publishers can use the following to review content:

  • Galley proofs of a guide - all of the guide’s text is laid out on a single screen for an end-to-end review of the content. This enables it to be reviewed in a similar manner to review galleys of books. This tool is especially useful for verifying that interpretive material is presented in a consistent manner.
  • Assets review for a guide - all of the guide’s assets (pictures, videos, audio, GPS coordinates, etc.) are listed for each content item to verify that the right assets are associated with the right content items.
  • List of unreferenced content - to find all content items that are not yet referenced by a guide and hence may be mistakenly not included for publication.
  • Preview version of your mobile website
  • Preview version of your native app

Grand Teton Map ScreenshotWe suggest you do the following to proof your app prior to publication:

  • Review the galley proof printouts to ensure all text and media content is correct.
  • Test the app on the ground in the actual area it covers if possible.
  • Follow the test script we will provide which helps to ensure you try each feature of the app.
  • Get the app in the hands of someone who knows the area well, such as a docent, park ranger or tour guide, and have them do a high level review for accuracy.

Step 4 - Submit to App Stores

This is where Nomad Mobile Guides does the heavy lifting for you. You tell us what content is to be published on what date and we do the rest for you.

  • We build the final application and submit it to the various application stores with your requested publication date. The application won’t be published before that date but may be published after it if the store’s review process is backlogged. We recommend submitting several weeks before the requested publication date.
  • We create a content bundle that can be sold through in-app purchasing and directly from our websites.
