Black Hills, Badlands and Lakes Association is the destination marketing organization for western South Dakota. They have a great website with tourism information for the region, and they wanted to make that information available in a convenient mobile format. We worked with them to plan the structure of their app and determine what content would work best from both their website and their printed visitor guide.
For the look and feel of the app, we incorporated the “America’s Favorite Road Trip” brand from BHBL and the iconic imagery of the Black Hills and Badlands.
To avoid duplicated effort, we set up way to import the business listings from their business management system and merge these listings with other visitor guide content from the Nomad content management system (CMS).
The app launched on iOS and Android in 2011, and has seen steady growth in users each season.
